Biography

About Me
My name is Emily Cooper, and I grew up on my family farm in Warrenton, Virginia. I will continue my studies at Virginia Tech within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Art has always been a central facet of my life; growing up within a family of artists, I was immediately drawn to the topic and quickly gravitated to the subject for my thesis. Another activity I pursue in my free time is riding, which has dramatically lent itself to my character, perseverance, and endurance, bettering myself as a person and a member of my community.
While researching Picasso, Basquiat, and Banksy, I found numerous articles that broadened my perspective on art and politics. Picasso’s paintings are some of my favorites, with his ability to draw the viewer into the scene and experience that of the figures. Although undecided in my studies, I hope to pursue something within the arts and bring further attention to the importance of beauty, creativity, and political imagery. Even with the rise of technological advances, nothing to me can beat paint against a blank canvas.
